We are extremely happy to announce that Eye4Sky has signed a contract to supply 4 Polarization Modulation Packages (PMPs) for the Photospheric Magnetic Field Imager for ESA Vigil mission. This contract confirms the great potential of our technology for astrophysical exploration.
The first of its kind, ESA Vigil will monitor our active and unpredictable Sun to protect vital infrastructure on Earth, in space as well as space explorers from its violent outbursts. By keeping an eagle eye on the ‘side’ of the Sun, the spacecraft will stream a constant feed of near real-time data on potentially hazardous solar activity, before it rolls into view from Earth. This monitoring system is expected to substantially improve the accuracy of space weather forecasts and improve the reliability of event-based alerts and alerts to end users when solar events occur.
The Photospheric Magnetic Field Imager (PMI) instrument is a vector magnetograph that will provide complete information on the magnetic field vector in the photosphere and physical parameters crucial for advanced space weather applications. PMI is a telescope that is a diffraction-limited imaging system, a high-sensitivity polarimeter and a high-resolution spectrograph.
The scope of supply includes an Engineering Qualification Model, an Engineering Functional Model, a Flight Space and a Flight Module unit.
ESA Vigil is scheduled for launch in 2026.
